PORTRAIT OF ELTON JOHN

Media: mechanical pencil on heavy ecru paper.

Background: this is an old piece, yet I still consider it the best work I’ve ever done. The details are as exact as I could ever achieve; the paper quality was the fantastic inciter. It evolved on its own, flowing without any effort from my pencil point -- this unusual activity adds to my view of it as a favorite.

The timing of this upload isn’t random. March 25th of this year will be this performer’s 60th birthday.

Here’s some interesting trivia background for my fellow ReBoot fans: Elton started as Reginald Kenneth Dwight, then legally changed his name to Elton Hercules John. The last name (as the first, but to another) pays tribute to one of Elton’s heroes and great benefactors: Long John Baldry, the late great legendary musician. ReBoot fans knew him as the voice of Captain Capacitor.

And more: Elton’s true “other half” (not the lover part) is his longtime songwriter/pal, Bernie Taupin. Bernie is the Words of Elton. While fans know well the story of Bernie and Elton, some of us also remember Bernie’s first wife and inspiration for the song Tiny Dancer ... “Mouse”.

I’ve been Elton’s fan since The Cage. (You can do the math.)

*chuckles* I imagine, my dear Cerulean, that he must have tons of "gifts" from his gazillion fans. He would never notice mine.

Still, thanks for the compliment; it is indeed much appreciated.
:iconbukeqi:
that's amazing!! i agree with cerulean... you should send him a copy ;P
:icon17dreams:
I think that this is probably your strongest work here.

Very good.

Perhaps you should get this to EHJ, not as a birthday present, but just because. Bet he'd appreciate it too.

*lol* Thanks, 17dreams, I really do appreciate the comment because it *is* the best I've ever done, and I don't think I can do it again. As for sending it to him, like I said to another, he gets tons of stuff and this would only get lost among it all. But I do know he's an avid art collector.

When I was younger, I was able to get through to a famous radio disc jockey who was conducting a poll on the air about what one would ask Elton if given the chance; I said I wanted to see all the art he collected. What I was able to glimpse in photographs that was on the his walls and rooms of his old mansion was just amazing. (Needless to say, the jockey was surprised; that was NOT the answer he was looking for. *LOL* But then again, Elton was never interested in women.)
:iconcyrionb:
LOL thanks anyway, BuKeQi!

TANK U tank u, kyria!

You've got good skills. If you did it once, you can do it again.

I know how campy and :goodie two shoes" that notion must seem, but is't the truth. I suspect that you love to draw but have no time to invest in the pleasure of it!

That (time) seems to be the missing ingredient for much of us (artists). Do we eat and provide or our families, or remain true to the one thing that we love -the thing that defines us- whether it patys the bills or not?

My art is an escape for me and some days I actually feel guilty that I take so much pleasure in its persuit! That makes me want to get all of the things I NEED to do out of the way first. Then draw last. Stupid, I know. But then again... you can't paint in a bloody homeless shelter either. If, in my lifetime, I'm not realized as another Paul Gauguin or Leonardo Da vinci, so what. I don't care what other people think anyway.

But if I don't get to draw...
:iconcerulean452:
Aw, I'm sure he would notice.
And you're welcome. =)
